Wow. This link goes to a video of Rep. Tim Ryan (D) from Ohio, talking about why there is so much furor over the draft, even with Bush insisting that there won’t be one. It is awesome and heartbreaking at the same time.
Republicans in Ohio have a plan to place thousands of recruits at polling places in “urban” (read: Democratic) neighborhoods in order to challenge new voters’ eligibility. I just don’t get it. How do these people sleep at night? What’s with this “by any means necessary” strategy? What, your boy can’t win under NORMAL circumstances so you’re just going to cheat by intimidating people who are trying to exercise their RIGHT to vote? That’s pretty sad.
Here are two “Pros” of working at home:
This is the view from my desk at almost any given moment of the day. Daisy is a good sleeper. Maggie is not, but she has her moments. And, yes, I am aware that my dogs are filthy and in desperate need of a bath.
Cons:
Starting to go a little mad from lack of human contact. We’re working on that.

Check this out - the UK’s Guardian newspaper has organized a letter writing campaign where their readers write letters to US citizens, expressing their support for Kerry over Bush. And THIS is the sort of response they are getting: “Real Americans aren’t interested in your pansy-ass, tea-sipping opinions. If you want to save the world, begin with you own worthless corner of it”. This is from one reader in Texas.
Wow. You know, maybe we do have the right president. I mean, if Americans really are this ugly to people from another nation who are just trying to express their opinion, maybe we have in office exactly who is represents us best. I’ve been blaming it all on Bush, but I forget that there are a lot of ugly, ignorant people in this country who support him heart and soul. And if he gets re-elected, it’ll be because more people looked at him and his bigoted, short-sighted view of the world and said “YES. THIS MAN UNDERSTANDS ME”. That’s really fucking sad.
Moving a little slow today. Kate’s birthday party was last night and I was up way past my bedtime, and yes, there was a good deal of alcohol involved. Someone (who shall remain nameless…*coughs*Ryan*coughs*…) even took off his pants.
So we got up this morning very late, went to Noah’s Bagels for breakfast, then went to Borders and bought some books. I have to read The Lovely Bones for a book club, so I got that, Magical Thinking, Augusten Burrough’s new book, and the new book by the Daily Show folks, America: The Book - A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction.
Then we went to go see Team America: World Police. Loved it. Sometimes you just need guys like Trey Parker and Matt Stone to remind you not to take everything so seriously. “America - FUCK YEAH!”
Jon Stewart was on CNN’s Crossfire yesterday and TOTALLY bitchslapped hosts Tucker Carlson and Paul Begala. He accused them of failing to do their job as journalists to keep politicians and the political process honest. He called them “partisan hacks” and told them they were shirking on their responsibility to the American public. And he called Tucker Carlson a dick ![]()
…What compels even a cynic to pick up a lucky penny, check her horoscope, question a Magic 8 Ball? There is a part of every woman that wants to believe. Everyone wants the perfect answer, the advantage. We buy products that guarantee instant transformation — products that promise physical advantages, products that promise emotional ones. On some level, we want to believe we can cast spells with shower gel or turn the tub into a cauldron. We are always looking outside ourselves for the answers. Not Soap, Radio® brings answers inside, bath and under your control.
I’m working with the lovely ladies at Not Soap Radio to develop a line of candles for their store, and thought I’d share their site with y’all. Their stuff is in really cute packaging and smells lovely.
