Trust the Process

Since I work from home now, I have access to a lot of daytime TV. My new favorite show is Starting Over, a reality show that’s on EVERY DAY, people. Six women live in a house together in the Hollywood Hills and get intense therapy for as long as it takes for them to “heal”. I know, sounds real f’ing exciting, but it’s really compelling and I’m totally hooked. Thought I’d share.

I hate being late.

Not much doin’ today. It’s one of my two days off a week (aah!), and I used it to work on candle stuff. The Flora Solaris website should be updated in the next few days (yay!), so hopefully I’ll start getting some business. Here’s a sneak preview (aka Shameless Self Promotion):

Cinnamonapple

Aren’t the pretty? They smell good too. These are Cinnamon Apple scented.

I’m late this year getting ready for the holidays, and I don’t have any craft shows lined up, which is a bummer, because I make lots of $$ that way! But I’ve gotten several inquiries about when the website will be up, and I guess I’ll start walking into stores trying to sell that way. Which I’m not looking forward to. I am not a salesperson. I guess at some point I’ll have to get a sales rep who will do all that for me.

More than anything though I’m kicking myself in the ass for dragging my heels getting it all done this year. I should have had all my fall samples ready in August, been going to stores in September. And now here it is mid-October. I suck.

Kate’s Birthday

Happy Birthday to my dearest friend Kate! We went to dinner last night at this great Greek restaurant in Hollywood. There was flaming cheese, lots of “OPA!”s, and good company.

(I refused to use my flash while we were at dinner, which is why all the pictures are blurry, but I think it looks neat.)

Even blurry she’s beautiful :)

Back to the “Real World”

I started my new part-time job this week, and let me tell you - Getting out of bed before 9am is HARD, people! After three weeks of sleeping until almost 10, I’ve been forcing myself awake at 8:30, soon to be upped to 7:30 tomorrow (yikes!) But it’s good. I was finding that I didn’t know what to do with all that free time. I ended up watching a lot of daytime TV. And that’s just dumb.

My rat, Lily, died yesterday :( I’m very sad. She didn’t like to be picked up, and didn’t like the hamster ball we bought for her, so she stayed in her cage all the time. We got her larger and larger cages, and I gave her fresh veggies and rat treats all the time, but it still broke my heart to see her stuck in there. I’ve made the vow that I will never again have another pet that has to live in a cage. It’s unfair and inhumane.

But to remember Lily, here are some happy thoughts about her. She made the cutest squeaky noises when I came in to say good morning to her. I had a song I sang to her, called ‘Lily Rat’ (sung to the tune of “Baby Love”), and she squeaked at me when I sang it. Maybe she was telling me to shut it, I don’t know. She loved carrots and green beans, hated asparagus, and really loved those yogurt drop things. When she was a baby, she used to sit on my shoulder and take naps in the hood of my sweatshirt. She was vicious through the bars of her cage (more than a couple of our friends have scars to prove it), but when you put your hand in the cage, she was soft and sweet. She was a pretty little thing.

I love you Lily!

Hell Has Frozen Over

Tucker Carlson, host of CNN’s Crossfire and usually annoying right-wing shill, was a guest on Real Time with Bill Maher this last Friday night. Maher was interviewing him because Carlson admits that he’s actually on the fence about who to vote for (he doesn’t agree with the war). Love that. But my favorite part of the interview was when Carlson said - “Listening to George Bush speak is a little like watching a drunk man try to walk on ice”. I hate him and his lameass bow ties, but for a brief moment, I loved him, just a little.
