It shows that the FCC received 5 times as many complaints of “indecency” in 2004 than in 2003. That’s a huge jump. And according to CNN, just about 100 percent of the complaints filed in 2003 and 2004 (not counting the 530,000 official gripes over the Janet Jackson episode) were filed by the Parents Television Council, a group boasting more than a million members whose self-described goal is “to restore television to its roots as an independent and socially responsible entertainment medium.”
Who are these people and why do they feel they can speak for me? I think I can decide for myself whether I’m offended by a nipple, thank you. Can you believe that there were over half a million complaints about the Janet Jackson thing?? People are seriously uptight ’round here.
