Bye Bye Birdie

A new study says that 10% of the world’s bird population will be extinct by the end of this century. That’s f’ed up. I just love man and the effect we have on our planet. And our fearless leaders who don’t do SHIT to try and fix it. LOVE THAT. Grrrrr.

An Eye for an Eye?

Scott Peterson has been sentenced to death by a jury in Redwood City. I was listening yesterday when the verdict came in, and there’s just something about the words “impose a sentence of death” that just really make my skin crawl. I think he did kill Laci and Connor, and therefore I think he deserves it, but I just don’t agree with the death penalty on principle.

Hawk and I were talking about it last night, and we agree that there is a difference between killing someone yourself in order to protect your family, like someone who has broken into your house to rape your daughter. In that case, shoot ‘em full of lead, strangle them with your bare hands, impale them on rusty spikes, whatever. But there’s a difference between that and the government killing someone in the name of one of its citizens. We have laws against murder, so why does our government get to do it? It’s just very confusing and hypocritical.

I don’t know, maybe I would feel differently if something horrible happened to one of my loved ones and the person responsible was facing the death penalty. But I don’t think it would make me feel any better to have them killed. I wonder what Laci would have wanted.

O Christmas Tree

Tree

And yes, Mom and Dad, of course we listened to John Denver and the Muppets (our favorite Christmas album) while we trimmed the tree.

Puppy Update

The breeder that my parents bought their puppy from has been sending my mom photo updates of him as he grows.

Could you DIE??? Have you ever seen a cuter wittle puppy? In the first picture, look at the wrinkles on his little ankles! I’m dying from an overdose of adorable.

Down New Mexico Way

We had a great time in New Mexico with Hawk’s parents this past weekend. We mostly just hung out at the house on top of the mountain and relaxed.

The highlight of the trip was getting to shoot the potato gun. Hawk’s father, Lawrence, and his brother Nick built it. It’s this big tube that you stuff a potato into, then you squirt Right Guard into the end of it, push a button and BOOM! Man does that thing fly! Those spuds were going hundreds of feet in the air. So cool!

We also had a great time meeting the two foster kids living with them right now, Sam and Steven. They are both so sweet, it’s hard to imagine that they’ve had such tough lives so far. But they are very much loved and taken care of at Lawrence and Danielle’s house.

Makin’ a left at Albuquerque

Going to visit the in laws in the Land of Enchantment and Strip Malls (aka Albuquerque, New Mexico). I hear there’s snow, so that should be fun :) I like snow.

They have two foster kids with them right now, so that will be interesting. We’re bringing the kids presents from Hollywood. For the 12 year old girl, we got a sparkly pink hooded t shirt that says ‘Hollywood’ on the front, and we got the 2 year old boy a little beanie bear with a sun and palm tree on his chest. Two year olds are hard to buy souvenirs for.

There’s not a whole lot to do in Albuquerque, so I’m bringing a book and plan on sleeping a lot. But it will be nice to see Hawk’s mom and dad for a few days.

Pictures when I get back.
