Any references to "God" or religion have been cut from the film adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy.
This is a serious tragedy, people. These are some of the most important and amazing books I have ever read, and to remove religion as a CENTRAL theme to them is raping the books of what makes them the most meaningful and thought provoking. The decision was made to remove religion and "God" because New Line expressed concern over marketing the films in George Bush’s America. Where, evidently, no one has ever heard of the First Amendment or separation of Church and State.

Guess who I saw at Lulu’s on Beverly today?
Mr. Xander Harris.
edited later to add: my mother just brought to my attention the fact that Nicholas Brendon has an identical twin brother, Kelly Donovan. I now have no idea which brother I actually saw. Either way, he was pretty hot.

We had a really good time on Saturday night with our friends Tony & Kristen. First we went to their new apartment in Santa Monica, where they fed us yummy food from A Votre Sante in Brentwood. Then some other friends of theirs, Jonathan and Regan came over. Regan is three months pregnant, so I was bending her ear about what to expect, and how she’s feeling, and all those sorts of things.
We ended the night at Hal’s in Venice. It was packed, but we managed to get a little table in the front, where we had a good view of the front door, and I was the first to spot Matthew Fox (Charlie of "Party of Five", Jack of "Lost"). Kristen nearly had a conniption. She loves him.
Luckily I had stuck my little camera in my purse, so we had some fun:

Look at these hot chicks…

Hawk and I

I forgot what deal had just been struck, or what Hawk was "Word"-ing Kristen about, but I thought this was cute.

Say it with me - "Awwwwwwww!"

I know, sappy overload…

Maggie got a haircut on Sunday. She didn’t like it. Notice the barely suppressed rage in her eyes. But she weighs about five pounds less now.

I am the proud owner of a brand spankin’ new Mac Mini, or as I like to call it, MiniMac. Isn’t it pretty, the way it takes up like NO SPACE,and is barely bigger than my red Swingline stapler? It is totally silent, with no annoying fan whirring noise, has a CD/DVD reader and CD burner all in that adorable 6×6x2 little box. And boy is it fast. Love love love.

When my friend Kate moved to Texas, she left me several of her precious plants. Here is proof that they are still alive! I have not managed to kill them yet, and they are lovely! There is a ginger plant, a rosemary bush, a “pregnant onion” and various other ones.

Meet Ademilton. He is a 16.7 pound baby boy, born in Brazil. His mother should be canonized.

Check out this chart on Alternet, which shows just how ridiculous and frivolous Dubya’s inaugural festivities are. Sad sad sad.
