So I had an appointment today with my friend Maija, who is studying to be an acupuncturist and herbalist at SAMRA here in L.A.. She told me that a combination of the two may help with the babymaking, so I went, not really knowing what to expect.
She asked me a bunch of different questions (she now knows as much as my regular doctor) and then her supervisor, an older, tiny little Chinese woman, came in, took my pulse (declared it “wiggly”, I think? or “springy”? I don’t really remember), looked at my tongue, pulled the lower lids of my eyelids down and I think she said I have a problem with my blood and my yin? I think? (Maija, help me out here.) Maija translated later and said the “western diagnosis” would be anemia.
Well, I found myself with needles in my ears, a needle in my forehead, needles in my hands, calves and feet. It didn’t hurt at all, and I can’t really explain how it felt except to say that it felt like all the different parts of my body were awake and talking to each other.
I also walked out of there with an herbal blend to be made into tea (about 15 different ingredients, from powders to twigs, bark and berry-looking things). And let me tell you, it tastes like ASS. Bitter bitter nasty ASS. And I’m supposed to drink three cups of this stuff a day for a month. Yay.
ask maija, but you may be able to put honey in it and make it taste slightly better (not sugar, which seems to fuck up ingredients).
i read somewhere once that if they made medicine taste good you’d want to stay ill all the time (not that you’re ill, but it’s the only logical reason that most things taste so foul - but think of all of those kids who really love the taste of nyquil)
hang in there! and i’m so glad you’re going, and that you didn’t mind the accupuncture (someday i’m gonna do it myself) and that you’ve got some stuff to take. it may taste like ass, but keep doing it. it will work. truly.
*hugs*
hey! congrats on being the 2nd one of us to actually try the needles…it does feel really, umm, interesting when you’re laying there with the needles in eh? It kind of felt to me like I could feel ’something’ actually passing between the needles on kind of a ‘magical electrical neil highway’
And the tea is NASTY! I had a similar witch’s brew for my shoulder problems; I think I only ended up drinking about 5 cups of it total before I just gave up…I couldn’t even choke that shit down! So good luck…! =)
