Hawk and I had a date yesterday at the Natural History Museum here in L.A. It was awesome. They’ve got a great dinosaur exhibit, complete with t-rex and triceratops skeletons, a fantastic animal exhibit (nevermind that the animals are all dead), and a really cool gemstone and mineral exhibit.

Dinofight!

Triceratops is my favorite.

Nate, this one is for you.

A Direwolf skeleton. This is for those of you reading “The Song of Ice and Fire”.

Pretty opal.

I don’t know what kind of rock this is, but it’s pretty.

Saltwater crocodile skull. I thought it was neat that the actual skull is all bumpy and porous, like how a crocodile really looks.

My man. And me, if you look closely.

I ran for 2.1 miles today without stopping - a whole 30 minutes. I rule.
The farther and longer I run the better I feel. It was weird, I didn’t hit my stride until about 16 minutes in. The first mile I was constantly checking the time, wanting to stop, but once I hit about 16 minutes, all of a sudden I felt like I could just run forever. I stopped at 30 minutes because the treadmill ran out of time, but I think I could have gone longer.
I have to give a shout out for my new magic workout gadget, the iPod Shuffle. This thing rocks. I wear it on a lanyard around my neck and it really doesn’t bounce around too much. I barely notice it. And it seems to pick up just the right song for when I need a kick in the ass. Today it was “Bleed from Within” by The Music.

Whew! Busy weekend. My folks were in town for my mom’s birthday, so we went out to dinner a couple times, went shopping, and my dad and I went running (he’s running with me in the 5K in December).
On Sunday, us girls had my friend Christine’s baby shower to go to (of which I was the hostess with the mostest), and the boys went and starred in the new Staind video. Our good friend Cooper was directing the video (for the song “Falling”) and he asked my dad and Hawk to be in it. The concept was based around a pee wee football game and Dad was the coach. Hawk played a dad in the crowd and got to have a brawl with our friend Josh. He actually got to use one of those cool breakaway bottles and smash it over Josh’s head. My brother stopped by the set and ended up being in it, too. We were teasing my dad all weekend about having to “find his motivation” and asking him if he was ready for his closeup. I can’t wait to see the finished product. It is so weird to think that my Dad and my husband are probably going to be in heavy rotation on MTV.
The baby shower was a lot of work, but lots of fun, and Christine seemed to really enjoy herself, and I got lots of compliments on the desserts and the candles I made, so it was all worth it.
So now I am totally wiped out. Luckily I don’t really have to do much today, just went grocery shopping and am doing some laundry.
Yawn.

Sorry I haven’t posted much the past few days. I haven’t deemed anything really newsworthy. But here are a couple snippets:
- We now have floor tile in the bathroom we are remodeling.
- The “Woo-Hoo!” I just heard from the other room means that we now have a functioning toilet in that bathroom as well. Woo-Hoo!!
- The bathroom remodel has uncovered the gross (really gross) fact that we have termites. How bad, we’re not sure until Terminix comes on Thursday. Keep your fingers crossed that we’re not infested, because, ew.
- Daisy is recovering well from her surgery and is driving me bonkers because she’s bored and wants to go romp outside and cries all day because her mommy is mean and makes her lay down all day long. Well, sorry, poochie, but we’re not tossing $1800 out the window so you can go have a jog.
- Training for my 5K is going well. I can now run for 20 minutes at a time, or a little more than a mile. A feat previsouly unheard of in conjunction with my name.
- I’m closing down the “business” part of my candle business. I’ll still make them for myself and family and friends, but have shut down my website and I’m not going to wholesale them any more. It just stopped being fun and became a pain in the ass.
- I still haven’t decided how I feel about The Colbert Report yet, but The Daily Show continues to rock the house. One word: HUFU.
- Also awesome: Grey’s Anatomy. All I have to say is that Dr. McDreamy made the right decision. SHUT UP MEREDITH.
- I had a 24 hour flu bug on Sunday and laid on the couch watching the extended versions of Lord of the Rings on DVD. And dude, Aragorn is the man. I have a fictional-character crush on him. Aragorn, not Viggo Mortensen, because that cat is just plain weird.
That’s pretty much it.
