Return of Puff

January 30th, 2006

**Only my really close friends and family are going to know what the hell this post is about, but for the rest of you, soon you shall understand. Oh yes, you will.***

So, I’ve been talking to Puffy Kitty lately, and he was telling me that his web presence just isn’t what it used to be. Some of you may remember the short lived puffykitty.com years, where he had a website but we never put anything on it, except a picture of the Puffster. At that time, he was more interested in finding his puffy bretheren. Alas, nary a one was found, and Puff got discouraged. “Screw the internet!” he told me. We let the domain name expire.

But now he says he needs to get his message out, and I have to agree. I told him we would take care of it. Being the guardian of an omniscient and omnipotent stuffed cat is an important role. Mainly, he just wants to show off all the pictures of himself we took in Europe, but from time to time he does have some important stuff to say.

However, there have already been obstacles. Can you believe that someone out there has ALREADY registered puffykitty.com??? Who is this person? What’s their glitch? Don’t they know that the REAL, the ONE AND ONLY Puffy Kitty needs that address?

But we didn’t let that stop us, oh no. Puffy Kitty cannot be held back. So today we registered puffy-kitty.com and soon we will have it up, so that the word of the Puff can be heard. Below is a preview.

Soon.

(And no, I’m not crazy, but for those of you God-Squadders out there I am, obviously, some sort of freaky idolatrous pagan.)

OK, this probably isn’t all that funny, and I shouldn’t be sniggering at something a terrorist says, but in a new video released today, Ayman Al-Zawahiri, the Al-Qaeda No.2, called George Bush (among other things) a “loser”. Snerk. It’s funny because it’s true.

Plus, it kind of tickles me that the terrorist rhetoric has deteriorated into the kind of stuff that kids hurl back and forth to one another on the playground. Maybe Bush will retaliate by calling Al-Zawahiri a Poo-Poo Head or something.

I WANT POPO ZAO

January 28th, 2006

Here is a video of “Inside the Actor’s Studio” host James Lipton reciting the lyrics to Kevin Federline’s horrible, awful, crime against humanity song “Popo Zao”. It is awesome. That is all.

RIP Chris Penn

So sad :( I’ve always enjoyed his work, my favorite movie of his being Footloose, when he played Willard. His dance montage to “Let’s Hear it for the Boy” is classic. And he was so great in Reservoir Dogs. He will be missed.

Star Sighting

I was in Hollywood today and stopped at the Baja Fresh on Sunset near Fairfax. As I was sitting there enjoying my chicken taquitos, Breckin Meyer came in with a guy friend. I was impressed because I’ve always thought he was cute, and he is, in a scrubby, young Hollywood-hip kind of way. But boy is he short.

I remember him best from Clueless, when he played the loveable skater boy who dates Tai (Brittany Murphy’s character), and when I saw him today I was trying to remember what else he’s been in lately. And that’s when I realized that the last thing I know he was in was Garfield: The Movie.

Then I wasn’t so impressed anymore.

My condolences to our liberal friends in the Great White North who got some bad news election-wise yesterday. Maggie tells me that this basically puts them in the same boat we liberals in the States are in, except they are still lucky enough that the conservative party is not the majority in Parliament, so the new conservative PM may not get everything accomplished that he wants to, including abolishiing same-sex marriage and abortion. At least that’s some good news.

Brandi Carlile at the Troubadour

January 24th, 2006

Hawk and I went to see Brandi Carlile play at The Troubadour last night. Sigh. She was wonderful. She’s got such great energy, and her voice is so sweet and clear and strong. Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling very well, so we didn’t stay the whole show (plus she didn’t go on until 10 – way past my bedtime these days), but I heard her play all my favorite songs. I even started to cry in the middle of “Fall Apart Again” when she sang “I don’t dream ’cause I cannot sleep”. I know, I’m a freak, but, hey, I’ve had a rough couple weeks and I haven’t been sleeping very well.

Anyway, here are the lyrics to “Fall Apart Again”. It’s my favorite song, so I thought I’d share. (Actually, if you click on the link to her website above, the song will start playing automatically. Enjoy!)

Long is the day, take it away
Hold it up and you don’t let it fall
Cause devils play, was yesterday
And I don’t care about it that at all.

I just smile once in a while
’cause I don’t want the lines on my face
I sit right here, holding the years
And I count all the stars in space

You all apart again and you can find a friend
Don’t turn to someone else because they won’t understand…

Self respect goes unexpressed
I don’t dream ’cause I cannot sleep
And I think the world of myself
But the world doesn’t think much of me
As long as the day is full of time, there will always be room
for your hand in mine

Don’t you fall apart again and you can find a friend
Don’t turn to someone else ’cause they won’t understand
I don’t want to hear you say that you miss yesterday
If you don’t like what you see
That means nothing to me

No one’s home I’m alone with my music and my TV
And I still say yesterday is best when left asleep

You fall apart again and you can find a friend
Don’t turn to someone else because they won’t understand
I don’t want to hear
You say that you miss yesterday
If you don’t like what you see
That means nothing to me

It was brought to my attention today by my internet friend from Canada that I hadn’t mentioned anything about MY blood test results from a couple weeks ago. Sorry if I was keeping you all on pins and needles! Anyway, all is well, everything came back perfectly normal. So we continue with the babymaking, and are actually feeling much more confident and relaxed about it.

To be honest, I didn’t know that anybody other than our families and friends really care about Hawk’s and my quest for a baby, and I was really touched when Maggie emailed me and asked how it went. I love the internets. How else could you have friends all over the country (or world, actually) who have never met you, but get invested in each others’ lives? So cool.

Thanks to Freakgirl’s recommendation, we are going here for dinner tonight.
