So It Goes

If I was a seagull high and aloof
I’d sail to the highest perch on your roof
But I ain’t no seagull, you know my name
And the wind’s blowin fortune, the wind’s blowin pain
And so it goes, nobody knows
How to get to the sky, how to get to the sky

If I was a puppy dog in the early dawn
I’d make it to your house and sleep on your lawn
but I ain’t no puppydog, you know my name
And the wind blows fortune, the wind blows pain
And so it goes, nobody knows
How to get to the sky, how to get to the sky
How to get to the sky, how to get to the sky

Hawk’s Little Soldiers

My husband is verile. How verile, you ask? HE HAS AN ABNORMALLY HIGH SPERM COUNT.

And he was worried that he would be infertile. Silly boy.

Bodily Fluids

Since my period showed up, quite unwelcome, this past Monday evening, Hawk and I went to a lab at UCLA this morning for some tests - blood test for me, sperm analysis for him. Mom, you will be proud of me that I neither cried nor fainted when they drew THREE vials of blood from me. This is after the nurse (a SUPER nice lady who called me ’sweetheart’ the whole time) took one look at my right arm and said “Are they both like this?” and slapped the insides of my elbows and made me clench my hands into fists before she could find a vein. So they’re going to test for all sorts of stuff - thyroid, LH level, cholesterol, and a bunch of other stuff.

Poor Hawk was sent to the public restroom in the hallway to give his “sample”‘, but emerged a few minutes later, wide-eyed and harassed looking, saying “People keep walking in!” Luckily, they found him a more private bathroom, which proved more successful.

We’ll get the results back next week, but I’m already feeling confident that they won’t find anything horribly wrong. I think my body is still just adjusting to being off the pill. You would think after nearly eleven months things would have regulated, but my cycle shortened by yet another day this month (down to 23 days, yuck). I’d like there to be maybe a little something wrong, but something easy, something that the doctor will say “Ah-Ha!” about and give me a pill and make it all better. I guess we shall see.

Awesome

Jon Stewart is going to host the Academy Awards this year. That will be so cool. He can always bring the funny. I hope he does his George Bush snicker. “Heh heh heh”.

Hopes for the New Year

Well, my last post was a review of 2005, so, as it is the first day of 2006, I feel compelled to write down, not resolutions, but hopes for the new year (in no particular order. Except #1).

1) I hope to have a baby this year, or at least get pregnant this year. (Duh.)
2) I hope to keep getting more and more healthy and in shape, and run at least one more 5K this year.
3) I hope to do some work on our house, to make it more serene and more of a sanctuary, somewhere I’m thrilled to come home to at the end of the day, where I feel safe and calm.
4) I hope to eat better, including doing more cooking at home. I also want to cut down on my drinking.
5) I hope for my husband to continue to do well with his business and reach a point where he can take more time for himself.
6) I hope to learn more about perfumery and maybe become an apprentice at the house where I work.
7) I hope to share lots of time with my family. 8) I hope to share lots of time with Hawk’s family.
9) I hope to share lots of time with my friends, and maybe make some new good friends, too.
10) I hope to get better with my knitting and start dazzling you all with my crafty-ness.

And I’m sure there’s more, but I can’t think of any right now. Of course, this list doesn’t include the standard “I hope for World Peace” and stuff like that, because those are a given, plus I’m a selfish bitch and am only thinking of myself. Or something.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone has their best year yet, or at least, not the shittiest year ever.

2005 - Year in Review

2005 was an OK year. There were some super high points and a couple very very low points. All in all, on a scale from 1-10, I’d give it about a 6, saved from a 4 only by our trip to Europe and starting to work at the perfume house.

Here’s a quick review of my year:

- January - Kate and Neil moved to Texas (really in December ‘04, but I’m counting it as January ‘05): BOO!!!
- February - Hawk and I went to Napa and did some yummy wine tasting: A big fat drunken YAY!
- January-June - The whole of Southern California was drenched by rain for about six months: would be a BOO, but I like the rain, but not THAT much of it, so, “yay”.
- March - Went to Mexico to see our best friend Cooper get married: SUPER YAY!
- March 31- May 4 - WE GO TO EUROPE FOR FIVE WEEKS: LE YAY!!!!!!!
- May - We come back from Europe, only to have Hawk’s grandma die five days later: Super Boo :( - May - We find out our best friends are going to have a baby!: WOO-HOO YAY!!
- May - We start trying to have a baby: Rowr!
- May - We waste nearly three hours of our lives watching Revenge of the Sith: BOO, HISS!!!
- May 28 - Hawk and I celebrate our five year wedding anniversary: Aww, yay!
- (Wow, a lot happened in May!)
- June - We are defrauded into buying a piece of shit car, but luckily they take it back. I get a better car: Boo! (and bangs head against wall)
- June - I start into a serious pit of depression that I really don’t get out of until October: *Cries*
- July - I start therapy: Hard, but necessary. Yay!
- July - I start working at Creative Scentualization: YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!
- July 14 - My 28th birthday! I also get my period today (nice birthday present from the universe), and we suffer through two thirds of Wicked, the Musical.: Boo. *pouts*
- July - The new Harry Potter book comes out: A great big Muggle YAY!
- August - We got to a Potluck Wedding.: Wha?
- August - We go to another wedding and see Kate and Neil!: Yay!
- August - Our kitty Thomas dies: Waah!
- September - We start remodeling our bathroom: *coughs through drywall dust*
- October - Still not pregnant, but Katie Holmes is: Grrr. BOO!
- October - Went to Austin to surprise Kate for her birthday!: YAY, y’all!
- October - Got my kick ass new tattoo: AWW YEAH!
- October - I start training for my 5K: *Pant, pant* Yay!
- October - I get acupuncture and drink some nasty ass herbal crap in the interest of getting pregnant: GACK!
- November - Hosted my friend Christine’s baby shower: Yay :) - November - Christine has the baby! : YAY :) !!!!
- November - I cook my first Thanksgiving dinner and don’t ruin it!: YAY ME!!
- November - Have to move out of the house for three days for termite fumigation: GROSS! BOO!!
- November - Hawk and I celebrate ten years together: I LOVE YOU BABY, YAY!
- December - I get a cold right before my 5K: BOO BOO BOO BOO!!
- December - I run in my first 5K and kick ass!: I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR!
- December - We spend Christmas with Hawk’s family in New Mexico: *Runs away screaming* (I kid, I kid.)
- December - Hawk’s grandfather dies: :( - December - We see my doctor and set up a Game Plan for Conception. I try to maintain my sanity and stay optimistic.: Pending.

Wow, that was a pretty crazy year. When I write it all down like that, no wonder I’ve felt barely sane for so long. A lot of good things happened, but a bunch of bad stuff happened too, coupled with being depressed. Well, hopefully 2006 will be a little easier.
