How to spot a baby conservative.

Bound for the Old World

In May we are going to Europe for ten days. Hawk’s grandma, who passed away last year, wanted to be buried next to her mother in London. So, we are going as a family over there to bury his grandparents’ ashes next to his great-grandma. After London, we get to go to Paris for five days! I’m really excited. I love it there so much. And this time, instead of staying in a hotel, we are renting a studio. So cool. It’ll almost be like we live there. Sigh.

Continuing On…

So I talked to my doctor today and he told me my progesterone levels are fine (”I’ve seen higher and I’ve seen lower”). He suggested that we continue with the natural babymaking for another month and if that doesn’t work, we move on to IUI.

But Hawk and I were talking about it tonight and we decided that we want to give it a few more months, maybe until the end of the summer before we look at other options. We figured out that the first seven months we were trying (May-November 2005), we were at least two days off on when I was ovulating, so that time gets thrown out the window. Which totally pisses me off. It wasn’t until October or so that I started not completely freaking out every time I got my period, so that was like seven months that I was driving myself insane when I maybe didn’t have to be. Grrr. At least now we’re on the right track.

Plus the idea of having to do an invasive procedure in order to get pregnant is not exactly appealing. IUI has an increased chance of multiples (twins, etc.), which scares the crap out of me. I know it sounds idealistic, but there’s a part of me that wants to make a baby the way it’s supposed to happen - just me and my husband. I know how lame that sounds (I read enough blogs by amazing women who have done IUI and IVF and adopted and such to know how ridiculous I sound), but it’s how I feel. It’s like if I admit to myself that I can’t get pregnant naturally that I’m broken somehow. I know. Lame. Welcome to my head.

I’m feeling better about the decision to wait a few months before we look at that stuff though. It is nice to know that we’re only at the beginning of our options. It could still work out over the next few months, and if not, then we have a great doctor to help us from there.

Poor Puppy

Remember back in October when my dog, Daisy, had knee surgery to repair a torn ACL in her left rear leg? Well, poor baby blew out her right rear knee last night. She’ll have to have surgery on it this week. The doctor said that it is very common for a dog who has torn one ACL to rupture the other one.

We took her in to the surgery center Saturday night right after she injured herself, but they can’t get her in for surgery for another couple days. Poor thing must be in so much pain. We have pain pills for her, but she’s pretty much just been laying down and crying all day.

Will Your State Be Next?

The pro-choice community is on high alert. The South Dakota governor has just signed into law a ban that criminalizes abortion in the state of South Dakota, and the U.S. Supreme Court announced it will hear Gonzales v. Carhart, challenging the federal abortion ban that has been struck down previously by every court that has examined it because, among other things, the ban does not protect women’s health. The Planned Parenthood community is deeply concerned and outraged.

Your donation will help support Planned Parenthood’s programs and services, including the fight against the passage of unjust laws.

“I am a Loser”

No, you’re not, Jonny! We loved you!

Jonstewart_2

This is a nice little column about why Jon Stewart probably won’t be asked back to host the Oscars. Mainly, because all those big stars take themselves waaaaay too seriously and don’t appreciate someone poking fun at them, which is what Jon is best at.

Behold Our Bathroom

After almost seven months, it’s finally (pretty much) done. All that’s left is some minor tweakage to paint and base boards, and we’re going to put in some shelves in the back corner. But how sweet is the sink? And the shower/bathtub is huge. It’s so much nicer than it was before.
