Last night we saw Rob Zombie at the Wiltern. I realize it’s the first real metal show I’ve ever been to and it was awesome. They played for almost an hour and a half, and it was non-stop, high energy the whole time.
The best part - during “More Human than Human” a TEN FOOT ROBOT came out on stage and harassed the guys in the band, and later on (I don’t remember what song), four or five giant skeletons with LASERS FOR EYES came out. It was so kick ass.
And I must say, that man is one sexy beast.

Tonight my parents’ beagle, Abbey, died. She had bladder cancer and was declining quickly, so they had her put to sleep.
They got Abbey for my brother, Nate, about ten years ago. Her name came from her propensity as a puppy for biting ankles - A.B., for “Ankle Biter”. She had an especially long snout, so my Dad decided that she wasn’t a regular beagle, she was a special sub-breed, known as The Long-Nosed Boogle. She was very good at using her long nose as a tool to lift up your arm to scoot closer to you on the couch. Once cuddled under your arm, she would lift her lovely long nose up to your face and gaze adoringly into your eyes.
She had lots of nicknames. Usually she was Abs, I called her Abberdabs. Nate, for some reason known only to him, called her Chester Peddlebee.
She was highly dramatic. She hated to be picked up and would yip and howl as though you were tearing her limb from limb. She was afraid of thunderstorms and flies, and would hyperventilate and quiver in the presence of both.
She had lovely long, velvety ears. She liked carrots and green beans and naps in the sun.
She will be missed very, very much.

See that gigantic teddy bear my Dad is leaning against? That was my Easter present from my parents. I named him Andre. Andre the Giant Bear. I love him.

We started re-watching Twin Peaks tonight and I remember how fucking fantastic this show is. Season 2 really needs to get released on DVD.

Wow. After weeks of protest, the French government has withdrawn a controversial employment law that would make it easier for employers to fire young workers. Millions of young people all across France protested, and the government (grudgingly) responded. At least there is somewhere in the world where the voice of the people is heard.
