I Dub Thee Sir Snotbucket

Still haven’t named the little boy kitty yet, but with the way his cold is progressing, he should be named Snotty Snotbucket or Sir Snots-a-lot or something. Poor kid has snot coming out of every orifice in his head - nose AND eyes. Millie is doing much better - she’s still sneezy, but not as much. I took them to the vet on Tuesday and she said that other than all the snot he seems to be doing fine; his lungs are clear, he doesn’t have a fever, he’s eating like a little horse, he’s drinking, he doesn’t seem to be in any major discomfort. On Tuesday besides the sneezing and wheezing, he was making these really cute little snorky sounds, and he’s not doing that anymore, so I guess it’s an improvement. He’s getting antibiotics twice a day and an antihistamine twice a day, so he’s well doped.

A google check of “feline colds” taught me that cat colds are much like human colds, they run their course in 7-10 days and are very common. So I’m not that worried, I just feel bad for the poor little guy.

Los Gatos Pequenos

We recently decided it was time to get another cat, mainly for Cooper to have a buddy. So, we went to Animal Control today with the intention of getting a young male. One.

We left with these two:

Kitties

They are about four months old, and they are brother and sister. The girl we are calling Amelia (Millie), because she is a little tortoise-shell and that makes me think of something old fashioned, and when we brought them home this afternoon, she wasn’t afraid at all and eager to explore, so I named her after Amelia Earhart.

Hawk is going to name the little boy, probably something motorcycle-related, but we haven’t decided yet. Right now I’m just calling him “Little Boy”.

Lb

They have taken up residence in one of our bathrooms, and we have a baby-gate up across the door. They’re too small to climb it, but the other animals can check them out and vice versa. Cooper seems mildly ticked off and the dogs are just plain confused. They both have colds, so I think they are mellower than usual, but they are really mellow, and not afraid at all. They will immediately crawl in our laps and curl up, and Millie has a great purr. Right now Millie is hanging out next to the baby gate and LB (Little Boy) is curled up in their bed. Totally unconcerned.

I’m sure that we are in for absolute turmoil and household insanity, and I know we’re nuts to have taken them both. Five animals in one house is an awful lot. But this is what happens when we are turned loose at the pound. We want to take home every animal we see. When we were at the shelter, I was holding Millie and Hawk was holding LB, and I burst into tears because I knew we could only take one. After cuddling them for about a minute, Hawk looks at me and says “We’ll take them both”.

I love that man.

Lady Pups-A-Lot

The same day that Lucy died, my folks and I had gone up to Sacramento to pick up a new puppy for them (weird, huh?). I hadn’t really been ready to introduce her yet, but here she is:

Her name is Zoe, she is a miniature dachshund, and she is the sweetest. She’s a lovely cream color, covered in tan freckles and spots. She and Ziggy hit it off right away, and she did get to meet Lucy and crawl on her a bit before Lucy passed. We were kind of joking that Lucy took one look at Zoe and was like, “Another puppy? Forget it, I’m out of here!”. My mom says that she’s got a bit of a temper - when they put her in her “room”, she’ll knock over her water dish in a tiny two-pound tantrum.

Welcome to the family!
