I was horrified to hear of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin’s death by stingray tonight. He was crazy, but entertaining, and way, way too young to go. My condolences to his family, especially his wife Terri, who, I understand, at press time was trekking on a mountain somewhere and was so far unaware of her husband’s death. Heartbreaking.

But this one quote made the whole terrible two hours totally worth it:
(FYI, just to set the scene: Cal Naughton Jr. is played by the awesome John C. Reilly, is Ricky Bobby’s best friend, and has just married Ricky Bobby’s ex-wife. Ricky Bobby is sleeping on his mother’s couch and Cal calls him from what used to be Ricky Bobby’s house in the middle of the night)
Cal Naughton, Jr.: Ricky, when you have the stereo and the T.V. on at the same time, how do you control the volume on the T.V.?
Ricky Bobby: If you have the stereo on, why would you turn up the volume on the TV?
Cal Naughton, Jr.: Cause I like to party.
We went out today and bought bikes!
This is mine:
It’s a Schwinn 7-speed cruiser. I love it, it’s so much fun. I haven’t ridden a bike since like freshman year of college. But it is true, you never forget how. It was too hot today to do much except ride it around the block a few times, but tomorrow I think we might go to the beach or the park or something.
Wheeee!
This video is from Countdown with Keith Olbermann, in which he rebuts Rumsfeld’s assertions that critics of the Bush administration appease the terrorists. I know.
Anyway, I can’t say anything better than Olbermann does. He’s my current hero.
Watch.
