My Favorite Stuff

I was inspired by The Ex, who did a post a couple days ago about some of her favorite beauty products. As a perfumer, I am a bit obsessed with how things smell, so these are some of my faves.

Currently loving Philosophy’s Spiced Apple Cider 3 in 1. Nothing says autumn morning more than showering with something that smells warm and cinnamon-y apple-y. Num.

Since I am a shower gel whore (I have approximately twelve different shower gels in my shower right now. Hey, you never know what you’re going to be in the mood for), here’s another. Jo Malone Wild Fig and Cassis shower gel. YUM YUM YUM. I love me the woody fragrances, and this one has earthy fig with hints of cedarwood. Warm and delicious and comforting.

This is a bit of a plug for the perfume company I work for, but it’s a heartfelt one. I am looooooooooving (aka obsessed with) Joy Comes From Within. It has top notes of almond and nutmeg, a single middle note of orange blossom, and base notes of tonka bean, vanilla and musk. It’s soft, creamy and sparkly all at the same time. Yummy yummy yummy. I wear this and my husband nuzzles into my neck and sighs “You smell goooooooood”. (Obviously you can tell that if something makes me say YUMMY, it’s good.)

Other favorite perfumes NOT by my company: Datura Noir by Serge Lutens. Talk about sophisticated. When I wear this, I feel like the hottest chick in the room - mysterious and sexy. Also, Un Jardin En Mediterranee by Hermes. More of a spring and summer fragrance, I think, but it’s got this bright, green, earthy (there’s that fig again - I love fig) scent that just makes me swoon.

Next up is the Rare Amber Resin candle by BURN. I got this as a birthday gift and I swear to god it has ruined me for all other candles ever in my life. Yes, I am aware that it is a $95 candle. I don’t care. This candle makes me want to cry, it smells so good. It contains Golden Amber, Peruvian Balsam, Sumatra Benzoin Crystal, Florentine Orris, Somali Frankincense, Bourbon Isle Vanilla Absolute, Opopanax Resin & Brazilian Tonka Bean. It makes my house smell so warm and amazing, and it burns forever. Perfect for fall.

What are some of your favorite smell-y things?

Apple Whore

A few days ago, my dear hubby alerted me to the fact that Apple has just started offering refurbished iPhones for $100 less than the regular retail price. So naturally, I ordered one. I got it yesterday. I am in lust with this thing. I *heart* the iPhone.

I think our family is single handedly putting all of Steve Jobs’ kids through college.

Wowee!

My wonderful darling husband presented me with my birthday gift a couple weeks early last night.

I know, right? Holy shit! I was totally floored. It’s the black one, and it is so sleek and beautiful, and I love the keyboard and the screen and wow is it fast. Love Love Love. I’m so spoiled :)
My old computer had just started to crap out, too. It was doing this weird thing where windows would scroll up and down super fast even if I wasn’t touching the trackpad. And it took forever to recover after restart.

I hadn’t been planning on taking my computer to France, but now that I have this lovely new toy you’d have to pry it out of my cold dead hands.

Ah, glorious day!

I am the proud owner of a brand spankin’ new Mac Mini, or as I like to call it, MiniMac.  Isn’t it pretty, the way it takes up like NO SPACE,and is barely bigger than my red Swingline stapler?  It is totally silent, with no annoying fan whirring noise, has a CD/DVD reader and CD burner all in that adorable 6×6x2 little box.  And boy is it fast.  Love love love.

For the product whore in all of us

…What compels even a cynic to pick up a lucky penny, check her horoscope, question a Magic 8 Ball? There is a part of every woman that wants to believe. Everyone wants the perfect answer, the advantage. We buy products that guarantee instant transformation — products that promise physical advantages, products that promise emotional ones. On some level, we want to believe we can cast spells with shower gel or turn the tub into a cauldron. We are always looking outside ourselves for the answers. Not Soap, Radio® brings answers inside, bath and under your control.

I’m working with the lovely ladies at Not Soap Radio to develop a line of candles for their store, and thought I’d share their site with y’all. Their stuff is in really cute packaging and smells lovely.

I hate being late.

Not much doin’ today. It’s one of my two days off a week (aah!), and I used it to work on candle stuff. The Flora Solaris website should be updated in the next few days (yay!), so hopefully I’ll start getting some business. Here’s a sneak preview (aka Shameless Self Promotion):

Cinnamonapple

Aren’t the pretty? They smell good too. These are Cinnamon Apple scented.

I’m late this year getting ready for the holidays, and I don’t have any craft shows lined up, which is a bummer, because I make lots of $$ that way! But I’ve gotten several inquiries about when the website will be up, and I guess I’ll start walking into stores trying to sell that way. Which I’m not looking forward to. I am not a salesperson. I guess at some point I’ll have to get a sales rep who will do all that for me.

More than anything though I’m kicking myself in the ass for dragging my heels getting it all done this year. I should have had all my fall samples ready in August, been going to stores in September. And now here it is mid-October. I suck.
