Seven Weeks, Eight Years

Seven Weeks:

Eight Years:

It was neat to get to go today, Hawk’s and my eight year anniversary, to see our baby’s heartbeat again.  He (I really don’t want to call the baby “it”, so I feel like I have to pick one or the other, so to humor my husband I’m going with “he”) has grown quite a bit and measures 10mm from crown to rump, which is perfect for seven weeks along.  He is the little blob between the two white “+s” on the picture.  I think I can tell which end is his head, but, seeming as how I don’t have a degree in radiology, I think I’ll keep an open mind.  The doc is thrilled for us and says everything is great.

Tonight we are going out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary, and the doc made sure to tell me “No champagne for you!”  Damn.  But I was expecting this and am totally cool with it.  I may steal a sip or two of Hawk’s wine tonight, but overall I haven’t been feeling like drinking lately, so it’s all good.

For some reason this anniversary is feeling particularly special to me.  I think because I’m pregnant, it is just reminding me of how far we have come together.  We have been through so much these past few years and have come out the other side stronger and more in love than ever.  Hawk has been there for me every step of the way, and now we’re entering a new phase of our partnership together.  It’s really very exciting!

Happy Anniversary, love.  You are my world.  I am so happy to be building our family together.  I know you hate it when I say this, but thank you for loving me.  I am the luckiest woman in the world.

Birthday BBQ

Today is Hawk’s 34th birthday. Happy Birthday, Baby!

We had a barbeque in honor of the special day, and almost all of our best friends were there. Here are just a few pictures:

Hawk Told Me To Blog About This

Someone found my blog by googling “my husband is a stud”. Love it.

A Very Southern California Christmas

This morning, after Hawk and I opened presents (new hat! new purse!), we decided to hop in the convertible and go for a drive up the coast. It is an absolutely beautiful day here, breezy and mild, not a cloud in the sky.

First, we drove up over Malibu Canyon.

Then we hit PCH and stopped at the Chart House for lunch. On the menu? Mimosas and crab legs. Aww yea.

It was so much fun. We were having such a good time together, and lunch was delicious. At one point I turned to Hawk and said “I’m having one of those rare moments where I am perfectly happy”.

After lunch we took a walk down on the beach.

I wish everyone a sunshine-y, sandy-footed, love-filled Christmas Day.

Date Night

My wonderful hubby and I went out on a date tonight. We started out at the movies, went to see No Country For Old Men. Great flick. Bleak as fuck, but wonderfully acted and beautifully shot.

We went to dinner out in Pasadena, then took a drive up the Angeles Crest Highway. It is so beautiful up there. There was a full moon tonight, so you could see just about everything even though it was dark. And so so quiet. We stopped at the top, with the convertible top down, and turned off the engine and just sat for a few minutes. It’s amazing that just thirty minutes outside Los Angeles, up the mountain, you can reach a place where you can’t hear another soul, just the wind in the trees.

And! We saw a fox. He was very cute. He had big ears. I wanted to take him home with us, but I don’t think he really wanted to.

NO THUMBS

So I’m at work today, and my phone rings. It’s my husband.

Me: Hi Baby! (I’m surprised to be hearing from him because I’d talked to him about 45 minutes before. He’s in Lancaster, about an hour north of L.A., riding his motorcycle at a track out in the middle of the f’ing desert.)

Him: (Sounding despondent) Hi, Love.

Me: How’s it going?

Him: Bad.

Me: Awww, did you fall? (This has happened before at the track, and since he is actually physically calling me, I know it’s nothing to be TOO concerned about. I figure he’s busted up his bike a little bit and can’t ride for the rest of the day. This has also happened before.)

Him: (Sounding despondent) Yeah.

Me: Are you OK?

Him: . . . . . Yeeeeeeah?

Me: Are you hurt?

Him: . . . Yeeeeah? Yeah.

Me: Aww, baby! What happened?

Him: I kinda smashed my thumb.

Me: Aww, sweetie! I’m sorry.

Him: Yeah, they’re taking me to the hospital.

Me: Really!? Shit! Is it broken?

Him: . . . . . . Kinda?

Me: . . . . . . . . ?

Him: . . . . . Part of it is…kind of…not…totally………attached….anymore.

Me: WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Yeah. My husband, in falling off his motorcycle, somehow managed to almost completely sever the tip of his left thumb. Fortunately, the rest of him is whole and unscathed, and this is what I care about most. But I drove the eighty miles out to the hospital and ran into the emergency room in time to see them unwrapping the bloody stump and EEEEEEEWWWWWWWWW. He wasn’t kidding when he said it wasn’t totally attached anymore. Gack.

It will end up that he’ll lose about a half inch from the tip of the thumb and will lose the fingernail completely. My brother in law has already called me and asked how I feel being married to an amputee.

A lovely way to spend a Friday afternoon, but at least it was his thumb and not his neck, right?

A Window Into My Marriage

Hawk and I have been watching a lot of Discovery channel lately, as well as History Channel. There is this one show on the History Channel, Modern Marvels, where each episode is an in-depth look on stuff like “Concrete” or “Diamonds” or “Jet Engines”. It’s really interesting, even if you’re not usually into mechanical or scientific stuff, and Hawk loooooves it.

Anyway, we’re laying in bed reading the other night and I can see out of the corner of my eye that Hawk is staring into space.

“What are you thinking about?”

.

.

“Copper.”

.

.

“You’re a dork.”

“I know, but you married me.”

Happy Birthday Baby!

Cimg00732

I could go on and on about how you are my world, the one person I can’t live without, the *sniff* “wind beneath my wings”, but I’ll content myself with saying:

Happy Birthday. I love you. You’re the coolest :)
You’re like the tide in the deep blue
‘Cause you’re always there when I need you
And when you need someone to carry you through
I’m gonna be there for you
